Hmm…this sounds a lot like….
As we have discovered during this course, there are many different styles of leadership to discover and put into practice in our professional lives. Some styles will come naturally while others will need a deliberate effort to become part of an individual’s leadership style. Many of these approaches resemble each other in their scope and design. After going through the information below, and, with this week’s readings in mind, use the discussion questions to guide a comparison of poetic and political leadership with transformational and charismatic leadership.
1. Definitions
Charismatic Leadership
The guidance provided to an organization by one or more individuals seen as heroic or inspiring and who have therefore been granted the organizational power to make dramatic changes and extract extraordinary performance levels from its staff.

Transformational Leadership
Style of leadership in which the leader identifies the needed change, creates a vision to guide the change through inspiration, and executes the change with the commitment of the members of the group.

All transformational approaches to leadership emphasize emotions and values, and share in common the fundamental aim of fostering capacity development and higher levels of personal commitment to organizational goals. (Davies, 2009, Pg. 38)

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
A) Is it possible that the combination of the political and poetic leader is what constitutes the charismatic leader? How is this similar or different to transformational leadership? Do these styles of leadership come naturally or can they be learned?
B) Could poetics and politics be used to describe transformational leadership? Or are they tactics used by leaders to achieve a transformation in their school or organization?
