Our group would like you to choose ONE question to write a response on. (Question 1a) and b) is considered one question) Please feel free to join any discussion afterwards.
1) a) Is it possible that the combination of the political and poetic leader is what constitutes the charismatic leader? How is this similar to or different from transformational leadership?
b) Could poetics and politics be used to describe transformational leadership? Or are they tactics used by leaders to achieve a transformation in their school or organization?
2) Some might argue that poetic leadership is based on “fluffy” or “sentimental” reasoning and cannot be formally recognized as a type of formal leadership. Using at least two of the examples listed on pages 141-143 of Davies’ book, explain why poetic leadership is, indeed, a formalized and necessary form of leadership for school leaders. Similarly, you can argue that it is not. Please use examples from your own leadership experience to support your thinking.
3) Provide an example of poetical or political leadership in your current or previous work place. How has either style of leadership affected your work ethics? Was it effective in inspiring you and others or did it leave things in chaos and unresolved? Please explain.
4) Select one journal publication listed and comment on how it lends support to this week's assigned reading in Effective School Leadership.
